She brings with her an impressive trio led by guitarist Randy Napoleon with bassist Jeff Pedraz and drummer, David Alvarez III. Brought up in the jazz clubs of New York City, Melissa Morgan has a voice that is unexpected. From the exterior you would assume a sultry lounge singer, which does make an appearance once and awhile, but from inside she contains a powerful instrument.

Kerrytown Concert House brings the world to the House with this special cultural presentation. Ara Topouzian takes the audience on a musical historical journey, leading his ensemble on kanun (ancient Middle Eastern Zither harp) and joined by Mark Gavoor (oud) and Jerry Gerjekian (dumbegs). Together, the group performs traditional Armenian songs as well as other Middle Eastern favorites while also sharing personal stories and memories.

Violinist Grant Flick and University of Michigan Jazz Studies masters program student, pianist Brendon Davis will sit in with the trio.

A storyteller who swings, she brings with her a high-powered rhythm section: Randy Napoleon (guitar), Rodney Whitaker (bass), and Keith Hall (drums).  This performance anticipates the quartet’s next stop – the recording studio – and will include some of the tunes they intend to lay down!


Cuban Salsa & Timba

This quartet — featuring Steve Jarosz (guitar and tres), Brian DiBlassio (piano), Eddie Caraballo (bass), and Owl DiBlassio (congas) — specializes in Cuban salsa and timba, seizing the spirit and energy of those forms, but allowing them to evolve by fusing them with cumbia, jazz, Arabic traditional and modern tropical rhythms. With  musicians of diverse nationalities and backgrounds from Detroit and Ann Arbor, the members of Grupo Escobar deliver rich, high-energy music that brings all of these influences to bear.

Ann Arbor Festival of Song regulars Christine Amon and Kevin Bylsma return to KCH for a virtual, miniature “Song Fest” filled with touching French and German art song selections, along with a few of their cabaret and musical theatre favorites. Tune in for a program featuring works from Brahms, Clara Schumann, Debussy, Poulenc, and Strauss; as well as 20th and 21st century cabaret and musical theatre pieces from Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, and Jeff Blumenkrantz. This recital, consisting of songs from Brahms to Berlin, captures the various aspects of summer love.

Brazilian Composer & Pianist Heloísa Fernandes

Dança do Renascimento (Renaissance Dance)

Brazilian pianist and composer Heloísa Fernandes paints her musical pictures with contrasts – driving rhythm and delicacy, joyous dance and quiet introspection, playfulness and elegance – and in doing so has been compared to the legendary Egberto Gismonti. To acknowledge and honor the need for humanity to heal and move forward during this pandemic, she has named this performance Dança do Renascimento (Renaissance Dance). This performance is given from her new home in São Luiz do Paraitinga, a city in the eastern part of the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
