A master educator, Roman Stolyar teaches at the Novosibirsk Musical College, where he has developed a course entitledTheoretical Foundations of Jazz Improvisation. His improvisational workshops have garnered him an international reputation, and have led to many invitations to create and implement workshops for organizations and universities around the world, including the International Association of Schools of Jazz in 2006 and the California Institute of the Arts in 2007.  Stolyar’s methods of teaching free improvisation are described in his book Modern Improvisation: Training Course for Piano.

Always searching for new talents and ideas, Roman Stolyar has created several ensembles comprised of young talented musicians – such as his collaboration with jazz vocalist Victoria Chekovaya and art rock duo SHANTI with singer Yelena Silantieva. His current project is a free improvisational trio called DOTS & LINES, and started as a result of his collaboration with two young improvisers from Saint Petersburg, saxophonist Ilia Belorukov and guitarist Andrey Popovskiy.
