From 1991-2007, Phil anchored the house trio at Cincinnati's legendary Blue Wisp Jazz Club, sharing the stage with Scott Hamilton, Ira Sullivan, and countless other jazz luminaries. His jazz festival appearances include the North Sea, Pori, Monterey, Montreux, Brecon, Wigan, and Elkhart Jazz Festivals and he has performed in clubs and concerts throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. Since 1996 he has released twelve CDs as a leader.

Paul Keller

This evening’s concert is hosted by our local jazz string bass hero Paul Keller, whose connection with Phil DeGreg made this event possible. Paul and his wife Michelle met and traveled with Phil DeGreg and his wife Carol on a 1998 jazz tour of France sponsored by Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. They performed memorable concerts all over France; they ate and drank and made merry together, and they all became life-long friends. Since then, Paul annually brings Phil DeGreg to Ann Arbor to showcase his incredible jazz artistry for appreciative audiences. Phil, in turn, often brings Paul to Cincinnati where they have have cooked up all kinds of jazz projects together. It is in Cincinnati at CCM that Paul first played with Phil’s regular drummer, the fabulous John Taylor. Last year, this trio performed as a unit at Kerrytown Concert House for the very first time. The tradition continues and expands! Welcome to Ann Arbor again and again, Phil DeGreg and John Taylor!
