This evening of Edgefest 2010 is supported by Bank of Ann Arbor.

We are very sorry to announce that clarinetist Ned Rothenberg will be unable to perform at Edgefest. A few days ago he was hit by a car while biking to the store. He will be fine, but needs time to recover. We are aiming to present his Clarinet Quintet at Edgefest 2011 (our 15th anniversary).

In Ned's place is the celebrated young pianist Angelica Sanchez with Chicago trumpeter Rob Mazurek. Sanchez’s debut solo record due out in Nov 2010 on the Clean Feed label, features a beguiling mix of her own meditative, introspective compositions and free improvisations. Sanchez’s piano playing is marked by its fluidity. She plays with tremendous ease and emotional involvement. As Carla Bley writes in a brief appreciation, “Every piece is like a story told to you privately. There are surprises, interesting structures and references, elegant, inventive language and astonishingly original content. Even the completely improvised pieces seem to have a plot.”

This performance is supported in part by a 2010 project grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs.
