Event Details

Join us for a public gallery reception welcoming Leslie Sobel’s new collection of encaustic works to the KCH gallery. Sobel's Water Ways series is inspired by vintage survey maps of the Mississippi River and current satellite images from when it flooded last spring.  As Sobel recalls, “I was fascinated by these images…I started trying to paint my emotion, capturing what was physically happening, but also trying to be more of a painter about it; more brushy.”

Current exhibits are available for viewing Monday – Friday from 9:30 am to 5 pm, during public concerts and by appointment. For more information or to make an appointment, call 734-769-2999.

Artist’s statement: “I have been fascinated with aerial views of landscape for many years. Lately I'm focusing on the movement and power of the Mississippi River. Some of these pieces start digitally, some are purely hand-worked – using encaustic, collage, oil pastels, charcoal, conté and other media. The motion and physicality of the work echoes my emotion about the power of the river’s ever changing channels. The two-part process of my work integrates technology and nature, echoing my thematic exploration of our interconnected environment.”
