André Mehmari

Pianist, composer and master improvisor André Mehmari returns to KCH in arguably his most compelling musical setting – the classic piano trio with bassist Neymar Dias and drummer Sérgio Reze. Likened to the trios led by Brad Mehldau and Keith Jarrett, the trio explores the Great Brazilian Songbook built by composers such as Tom Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, and Milton Nascimento, as well as Mehmari's growing catalog of original compositions. Considered one of Brazil's greatest contemporary composers, Mehmari's instinct for beauty manifests itself in all that he touches – writing new works, arranging the treasures of other composers, improvising on them all. Each performance features an improvised suite based on suggestions from the audience, a moment when listeners can hear themes they know well interpreted and woven into a new, wondrous, one-time-only moment of stunning creativity.
