About KCH

Since its founding in the fall of 1984, KCH has become an important part of the cultural fabric of the greater Ann Arbor Area. Operating out of a small and unique facility in a premier location in downtown Ann Arbor, KCH presents a rich and diverse performing arts series (approximately 70 events per year) to a cross-section of southeast Michigan and local community audiences. Offerings include chamber music and solo concerts and a jazz series featuring internationally known artists.
The concert hall is graced by a very fine model "C" Hamburg Steinway grand piano and also has state-of-the-art recording equipment. Many KCH concerts are recorded and aired on NPR radio stations around the country and several artists have chosen KCH as the site for their CD recordings.

KCH provides an intimate visual and performing arts space for rent to local and national artists and arts organizations. In addition, the Concert House is active in the bus tour travel industry, offering private concerts to groups of tourists (mainly senior citizen groups) who visit Ann Arbor from all over the U.S.
KCH also serves as a home for local performing artists, teachers, and arts organizations. Ten music teachers have permanent studio space arrangements at the House. In addition to presenting concerts throughout the year, Kerrytown Concert House is also available for rent to those artists wishing to produce events, hold meetings, classes, workshops, or private functions. Several area cultural and social service non-profit agencies use KCH for fund raising events, meetings and other activities. KCH makes the House available at reduced rates to artists and non-profit agencies.

The KCH opening in 1984 featured two gala benefit evenings with performances by many of Ann Arbor's stars, among them the celebrated husband and wife duo of William Bolcom and Joan Morris...THE interpreters of American song. The late Percy Danforth, master of the bones, also performed, as did popular pianists William Albright and James Dapogny, oboist Harry Sargous, saxophonist Donald Sinta and poet Alice Fulton. This auspicious opening set the tone for the House, affirming our commitment to a world-class performance standard and to a personal, communicative and generous style enjoyed by performers and audiences alike.

In the years since its opening, our unique hall has hosted and presented hundreds of performances of classical and jazz music, cabaret, and theatre productions by both established national and international artists as well as emerging talent, many of whom live and work in our area. We should also mention the many private events, weddings, birthday parties and memorials that make KCH even more special to the community. It has been a wonderful journey, and we plan to continue growing for many years to come!
